A little Bit of Truth on a Rainy Day

I know that some people won’t like this and that’s fine, but, I’m all about the truth and I’m going to keep speaking it until the Lord call me home no matter whether anyone likes it or not.  That’s who I am and I stand firmly on the truth and my convictions.

Everyone who knows me knows that I am not a KJV only person, never have been, never will be.  Now, I’m not attacking the KJV, I love the KJV.  I grew up with it and I still use it.  Im also not attacking people who prefer to use the KJV over any other translations, that’s fine.  What I’m attacking is the KJV only belief.  It’s false.  It’s not based on truth nor is it based in reality.  The KJV is not the best translation and it’s not the most accurate translation. Not by a long shot.

Let me explain a few things…

1.  People are all about the 1611.  If you’re using a KJV Bible, you are not using a 1611 edition, it no longer exists.  Most of us couldn’t read it if we did have it.  You are using the 1769 edition, and it is not even close to being identical.  And even at that, you’re either using the Oxford edition or the Cambridge edition, and they are not the same.

2.  The 1611 KJV contained the 14 books of the Apocrypha, even though those books were rejected from the official Canon in the 4th century.  The Apocrypha remained a part of the KJV until it was officially removed in 1885.

3.  The 1611 edition also contained an 11 page introduction written by the translators, that is mysteriously absent from all modern KJV bibles.  I’m not sure when it was removed, but I do know why.  Because it refutes the whole KJV only belief.  I’ve read the entire 11 page introduction.  The translators didn’t belive that their translation was perfect, they even said that some errors should be expected as with any new translation attempt.  They didn’t believe it was the best translation or that it would or should be the last.  The 1611 also contained a lot of marginal notes by the translators that talked about other translations, other manuscripts, and other things that refute the KJV only belief,  These marginal notes have also mysteriously disappeared.

4.  The KJV was not a new translation, it was a retranslation of the Bishops Bible.  The translators also mentioned this in the introduction.  They said that their goal was not to create a new translation, not to make a bad translation good, but to make a good translation better.

5. To claim that the KJV, or any other translation, for that matter is the only real Bible and the only one that should be used is extremely disrespectful to other people and even more so to God and the Holy Spirit.  It’s extremely divisive, and it’s dangerous and spiritually harmful to people.  It also, as I’ve said a hundred times before,  bordering on blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.

Again, I’m not attacking the KJV or the people who prefer to use it, I’m attacking a long held belief that is based on lies and false assumptions.  If you want to use the KJV then use it, there’s nothing wrong with it.  But stop clawing its the only real Bible and the only one we should be using.

A Snake a Woman, and Some Forbidden Fruit

“Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” Mathew 26:41 I took a group of 3rd graders on a field trip to a working farm last fall. It was a huge farm with goats, cows, chickens and even a couple of lazy pigs that spent the entire day lying in the mud. One other feature of this farm that you don’t see much of North Carolina was a pretty good sized vineyard. We all love grapes right? This was in early September so the grapes were ready to harvest and people were already busy picking them. After the days guided activities were over we had some free time to roam around. The owner of the farm told us that we could go anywhere on the farm we wanted, but to please stay out of the vineyard. The reason was that the grapes were being harvested for a local winery and they needed all of them. If you know anything about 3rd graders, a huge vineyard full of sweet, succulent grapes can prove too much of a temptation and unfortunately,

Verses that Actually are not in the Bible

There are quite a few sayings that Christians like to quote as if they are from the Bible when in actuality they do not. Some even blatantly contradict the Bible. While our nation’s biblical illiteracy shows up in our inability to recognize phrases that come from the Bible, many struggle with phrases that “sound biblical” but come from somewhere else.   For instance:   ” God will not give you more than you can handle.” Not in the Bible anywhere.  If you believe this saying, you need to talk to the early Christians.  They were hated.  They were beaten, imprisoned, tortured, and executed for their faith. What about the reformers?  Thousands of them were exiled, tortured, imprisoned, and executed, why?  For defying the wicked, Roman Catholic Church and for trying to give people the word of God in their own language. For we do not want you to be ignorant, brothers, of the affliction we experienced in Asia. For we were so utterly burdened beyond our strength that we despaired of life

A Disturbing Disregard for the Truth of Gods Word

“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge…” – Hosea 4:6 According to disturbing new tudies, over 50% of Americans rarely or never read the Holy Bible. Only 1 in 10 hold a Biblical worldview. Only 25% of American Christians feel they have a personal responsibility to share the Gospel with others, and only 40% believe that the Holy Bible is truly the “Word of God”. If this were just a study of all Americans, it would be sad but not too surprising. The responses of so-called professing Christians in these studies, on the other hand, are extremely alarming. How can anyone call themself a Christian and say they have NO obligation to preach the Gospel to others? Are we reading the same Holy Bible? Are we worshipping the same Jesus Christ? The Jesus Who said to “go into all the world and PROCLAIM the Gospel to the whole creation”? What’s worse than fellow believers not sharing the Gospel message, is that the study also revealed that
