Star-Lord’s Lord; Infinity War and the Battle for Supremacy in Your Heart

No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. (Matthew 6:24)

Avengers; Infinity War is on track to become the highest grossing superhero film of all times. As both the Avengers and Guardians continued to protect the world from perils too large for any one hero, a new, more dangerous threat emerges when Thanos sets out to collect all 6 Infinity Stones. With this power, Thanos plans to take control of the entire universe and impose a twisted plan on the cosmos. The Avengers and Guardians must unite to secure victory.

When the Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy meet for the first time, neither group knows the others allegiance. During the battle, Dr. Strange realizes that both teams may be fightingfor the same cause.

Have you noticed that, in both the Marvel universe and ours, what we serve changes how we live. Allegiance direct actions. So Dr. Strange asks Star-Lord to declare his:

Doctor Strange: “Let me ask you this one time. What master do you serve?

Star-Lord: ” What master do I serve? What am I supposed to say, Jesus?”

Well, the answer is actually, “Yes!” Sometimes life imitates art. Other times it is the other way around. Chris Pratt, who plays Star-Lord, appeared on the February issue of Vanity Fair. In the interview, Pratt shares the story about a night that changed his life. He was sitting outside a grocery store. He was waiting on some older friends who were inside purchasing beer for a party when a stranger walked up to him; “You going to go party. . .Drink and do drugs? Meet girls, fornication?” Pratt responded “I hope so.”

Let’s just own it. Everyone has a master. You, me, and a young Chris Pratt sitting outside a grocery store waiting on friends to by him beer. He was serving a master of pleasure and self. It is a relentless master, never satisfied, always hungry for more.

In the interview, Pratt explains what happened next:

It should’ve made me nervous but didn’t. I said, ‘Why are you asking?’ He said, ‘Jesus told me to talk to you . . .’ At that moment I was like, I think I have to go with this guy. He took me to church. Over the next few days I surprised my friends by declaring that I was going to change my life.

Ultimately, you may serve many different people, a boss, a coach, a parent. But you can only have one master. And this subjection will change how you do battle in this life. And if you want to change your life, change your master. Pratt became a follower of Jesus that night and that faith has been a principle part of his life, a very successful and fulfilled life.

So Jesus is Star-Lord’s master. Is he yours?

A Beautiful Doctrine

A Beautiful Doctrine    In some churches, it is a word that conjures up images of an angry and capricious God who acts arbitrarily to save some, but consigns most sinners, including deceased infants, to eternal Hell. For many professing Christians, it is the mother of all swear words.   Let the pastor breathe it in the presence of the deacon board and he risks firing, fisticuffs or worse. A God who chooses is anti-American, anti-democracy. It bespeaks a long-faced, puritanical religion, a doctrinal novelty invented by a maniacal 16th-century minister whose progeny manufactured a theological “-ism” that has plunged countless souls into a godless eternity.   In other churches, it is a cherished word that describes a beloved doctrine, one that bestows comfort and unshakable confidence that not one maverick molecule, not one rebel subatomic particle exists outside of God’s loving providential control, even in the matter of salvation. Want to start a lively convers...

Is Your Pastor a Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing?

In this age of cultural Christianity, and what I mean by that is Christianity that is changed to fit the current popular ideas.  Christianity that is custom tailored to suit the community’s various wants, tastes, and needs. Did you know that when one of the trendy new “modern churches” are planning to plant a campus (that’s the new trendy name for these modern, progressive churches now, “campuses” ) they send interviewers into the community to talk with people to find out what they want in a church.  What sort of programs they like and what kind of sermons they want to hear, and then they tailor the entire worship service around what the community wants.  This is not church folks, this is a social club.   The problem with this new fangled Christianity is that people may know very well what they want, but what they need is an entirely different story.  Many people today want to be entertained in a worship service.  They want loud music, they want drama skits...

A Disturbing Disregard for the Truth of Gods Word

“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge…” – Hosea 4:6 According to disturbing new tudies, over 50% of Americans rarely or never read the Holy Bible. Only 1 in 10 hold a Biblical worldview. Only 25% of American Christians feel they have a personal responsibility to share the Gospel with others, and only 40% believe that the Holy Bible is truly the “Word of God”. If this were just a study of all Americans, it would be sad but not too surprising. The responses of so-called professing Christians in these studies, on the other hand, are extremely alarming. How can anyone call themself a Christian and say they have NO obligation to preach the Gospel to others? Are we reading the same Holy Bible? Are we worshipping the same Jesus Christ? The Jesus Who said to “go into all the world and PROCL...
