In this age of cultural Christianity, and what I mean by that is Christianity that is changed to fit the current popular ideas. Christianity that is custom tailored to suit the community’s various wants, tastes, and needs. Did you know that when one of the trendy new “modern churches” are planning to plant a campus (that’s the new trendy name for these modern, progressive churches now, “campuses” ) they send interviewers into the community to talk with people to find out what they want in a church. What sort of programs they like and what kind of sermons they want to hear, and then they tailor the entire worship service around what the community wants. This is not church folks, this is a social club.
The problem with this new fangled Christianity is that people may know very well what they want, but what they need is an entirely different story. Many people today want to be entertained in a worship service. They want loud music, they want drama skits, they want snack bars and coffee shops, they want short 25 minute sermons that don’t include sin or repentance, or Hell, or Satan, or judgement, or, pretty much anything that the Bible talks about. They want uplifting sermons that talk about how to live your best life now, friends, the only way that you’re going to be able to live your best life now is if you plan on spending your eternity in Hell. Young people today want sermons that teach them how to think positive and speak wealth and health and prosperity into their lives. They want hip, young, energetic pastors and preachers that are “in touch” with the current trends. Out with the old suit wearing, well groomed, Bible thumpers that preach repentance and in with the long haired, leather wearing, grunge style preachers that only preach about love and positivity.
Well, love and positivity may keep you at peace with the world, but it will not get you into Gods kingdom. You cannot positive think your way into Heaven. The only way anyone gets into Heaven is by the shed blood of Jesus Christ, true repentance, and absolute surrender to a His lordship. There is no other way.
Again, in this age of the new cultural Christianity, we need to be more on guard than ever before because there are so many wolves in sheep’s clothing preaching false gospels. If you don’t know your Bible, and I mean know it from front to back, you will fall victim to these snake oil salesmen. They are from the devil and just like the devil, they use just enough biblical truth to make what they say sound right and millions of people buy right into their lies.
Charles Spurgeon once said that a church that the people love the best is sure to be the one that God detests.
Folks, you have preachers out there today like Creflo Dollar, Joel Osteen, Kenneth Copland, and Jessie Duplantis, just to name a few, that are extremely popular and extremely wealthy and do you know why they are popular and wealthy, because they rarely quote the Bible and when they do they quote it out of context. They rarely if ever mention sin or repentance or judgement, or Hell, or even the love of God for that matter. They spend 99 percent of their sermons talking about how to become wealthy or how to build self esteem, or begging their listeners to sow a seed of faith, which translates from the Greek as give me money.
Obviously these prosperity preachers have been around for decades, but they seem to fit right into the new cultural Christian concept.
Here is a dead giveaway to know that you are listening to a false teacher. If your pastor rarely ever preaches about sin and repentance, he is probably a wolf. If your pastor only talks about Jesus as a footnote, he’s probably a wolf. If your pastor only talks about building self esteem and how to speak good things into your life, he’s probably a wolf. If you always leave a service feeling good about yourself, your pastor is probably a wolf. If you can answer yes to any of these questions, you need to high tail it out of that church and find a church that preaches the truth and the sooner the better.
