America, the not so Great Nation Anymore

America, the once great nation, the lone superpower of the planet has fallen on hard times.  It’s disheartening to say the least, to see how far into the sewer this great nation has fallen in less than 250 years.  We can continue to play the blame game and point fingers at the politicians, the education system, Hollywood, etc, or we can look to the entity who is really at fault and hopefully change the tide.

As an undergrad, I read Democracy in America by Alexis de Tocqueville.  He was a French diplomat, philosopher, and political thinker who traveled all over America in 1831 searching for what made America so great.  He believed that religion played a major role in the success of any democratic form of government, but he was Roman Catholic so it’s difficult to know if he was an actual born - again Christian.

Anyway, he described America as a successful democracy, which we are not and never have been.  What America is, is a republic with shades of democracy.  What is interesting about Tocqueville is that, as a Roman Catholic, he saw that the old time churches that dotted the American landscape with the old time hellfire and brimstone preachers was what made America so great.

He was a staunch advocate of democracy and the whole majority rules form of government, but he also noted that the greatest danger he saw was that public opinion would become an all-powerful force, and that the majority could tyrannize unpopular minorities and marginal individuals.

That’s sort of laughable now if you look at what’s happening in America today where the minorities and marginalized individuals are the ones tyrannizing the majority and shaping public opinion in their favor.  It’s ridiculous and it shouldn’t be that way.

I’ve said this a thousand times, if we who call ourselves Christians would pull our heads out of the sand, stand up and live the way we are commanded to live by God, and stop worrying about offending people or hurting peoples feelings, and stop worrying about what this wicked world thinks about us, we could turn this world upside down again just like the first century Christians.

Stop compromising with ungodly people and call sin what it is…evil and wretched.  I see on social media every day all this garbage about how love is love and promoting homosexual relationships, transgenders, abortion, and everything else that God calls abominable.

This is the reason why America is under gods judgment now…and we are. We have both feet in the grave and we’re hanging on by our fingernails. This country is full of spineless, weak kneed, jellyfish that call themselves Christians, while refusing to obey Gods word.  Honestly, I’m surprised that God hasn’t wiped us off the map already.

Let me remind you of what God says…

You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; you cannot partake of the Lord’s table and of the table of demons. 1 Corinthians 10:21

Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. James 4:4

He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters abroad. Mathew 12:30

Think about that…

Yes, the government, Hollywood, public education, and a myriad of other entities share in the blame, but the Christian community has the majority of the blame in this.  If you look at the Christian community that existed 248 years ago and compare it to the Christian community today, we aren’t even in the same dimension with those Christians.  There is no comparison.

Things need to change…now.  It’s probably too late to save this great nation, but we need to at least try.

Is Your Pastor a Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing?

In this age of cultural Christianity, and what I mean by that is Christianity that is changed to fit the current popular ideas.  Christianity that is custom tailored to suit the community’s various wants, tastes, and needs. Did you know that when one of the trendy new “modern churches” are planning to plant a campus (that’s the new trendy name for these modern, progressive churches now, “campuses” ) they send interviewers into the community to talk with people to find out what they want in a church.  What sort of programs they like and what kind of sermons they want to hear, and then they tailor the entire worship service around what the community wants.  This is not church folks, this is a social club.   The problem with this new fangled Christianity is that people may know very well what they want, but what they need is an entirely different story.  Many people today want to be entertained in a worship service.  They want loud music, they want drama skits...

Why the Reformation Still Matters

In an era of spiritual confusion and cultural fragmentation, the Reformation stands as a poignant reminder that truth is worth fighting for.    October isn’t just about falling leaves and pumpkin spice ;  it’s Reformation Month. On October 31, 1517, Martin Luther nailed his 95 Theses to the church door in Wittenberg, sparking a movement that would reshape the church, challenge empires, and recover the gospel’s blazing center: salvation by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. This month, I’m launching a series of blog posts that explore why the Reformation still matters, how its truths confront our modern confusion, comfort our weary hearts, and call us back to the beauty of biblical grace.   When most people hear the term “Reformation,” they think of dusty history books, old church controversies, or perhaps Martin Luther wielding a hammer. However, the truth is that the Reformation isn’t just a chapter in church history; it’s a living legacy. It’...

America is no Longer Good

French writer Alexis de Tocqueville, after visiting America in 1831, said “I sought for the greatness of the United States in her commodious harbors, her ample rivers, her fertile fields, and boundless forests, and it was not there. I sought for it in her rich mines, her vast world commerce, her public school system, and in her institutions of higher learning, and it was not there. I looked for it in her democratic Congress and her matchless Constitution, and it was not there. Not until I went into the churches of America and heard her pulpits flame with righteousness did I understand the secret of her genius and power. America is great because America is good, and if America ever ceases to be good, America will cease to be great!”   I read Democracy in America in college.  De Tocqueville traveled all over America searching for what made us a great nation and he found the old time church with old time preachers, preaching hellfire and brimstone sermons was what made America ...
